The quickest way to spot fake Chrome Hearts is to check four things together: the care and size tags, the silver hardware and its .925 stamps, the stitching around cross patches, and the price. A real piece passes all four. A fake usually fails at least two, and it almost always fails the tags first.
We inspect every Chrome Hearts piece by hand in London before it is listed. This guide is the same checklist we use, illustrated with details from pieces that have passed through the GEMLUX vault.
1. Care and size tags
Chrome Hearts clothing is made in the USA and the labelling is consistent across seasons. On genuine garments we look for:
- The scroll logo tag. The gothic "Chrome Hearts" scroll is printed sharply, with even spacing between the letters and clean edges on the serifs. On fakes the letters are often thicker, blurred or slightly uneven.
- "Made in U.S.A." printed on the care label.
- The RN number. Genuine care labels carry the registration number RN# 97729. A missing RN number, or a different one, is a red flag.
- Multilingual care instructions, including Japanese, on a long folded care label.
- The CH barcode sticker on many pieces: a white sticker with the gothic "CH" monogram and a product number. Stickers fall off, so its absence alone proves nothing, but a sticker with a fuzzy monogram or the wrong font is a warning.
2. Silver hardware and .925 stamps
Chrome Hearts is a silver house first. Buttons, rivets, zip pulls and the scroll plates on beanies are sterling silver.
- Weight. Real hardware feels dense and cold. Plated base metal feels light.
- Stamps. Silver parts are marked .925, often with "CH" and a copyright mark. The stamp should be crisp and level, not shallow or wobbly.
- Patina. Genuine silver darkens naturally in the recesses of crosses and daggers. Fakes are often uniformly bright, or show a coppery base where the plating has worn through.

3. Leather cross patches and stitching
Leather crosses on trousers, hoodies and bags are cut and sewn in Los Angeles. Look for:
- Even, tight stitching close to the edge of each patch, with no loose threads at the points of the cross.
- Soft, good-quality leather with a slight sheen. Fakes often use stiff, plasticky leather that cracks at the corners.
- Correct cross proportions. Counterfeit crosses tend to have arms that are too short or too thick.
4. Price and provenance
Chrome Hearts is sold through its own stores and rarely discounted. A new-looking hoodie or pair of cross patch trousers at a fraction of resale value is almost never genuine. Ask for receipts, the original bag, and close-up photos of the tags and hardware. Any seller who will not provide them is a risk.
Real vs fake: quick comparison
| Detail | Genuine | Common fake |
|---|---|---|
| Scroll logo tag | Crisp, evenly spaced gothic lettering | Thick, blurred or uneven letters |
| Care label | "Made in U.S.A.", RN# 97729, multilingual text | Missing RN, spelling errors, short label |
| Hardware | Heavy sterling silver, crisp .925 stamp | Light plated metal, faint or missing stamp |
| Cross patches | Soft leather, tight edge stitching | Stiff leather, wide or loose stitches |
| Price | Close to or above retail on resale | Far below market |

FAQ
Is all Chrome Hearts made in the USA?
Clothing, leather and most silver are made in Los Angeles. Eyewear is a notable exception and is made in Japan.
Does a missing barcode sticker mean a piece is fake?
No. Stickers are often removed or worn away. Judge the tags, hardware and stitching together instead.
Can a receipt prove Chrome Hearts is real?
A store receipt helps, but receipts can be faked too. Always check the item itself.
Where can I get Chrome Hearts authenticated in the UK?
GEMLUX checks every piece it buys or sells in London. If you are selling, send us photos and we will tell you what we see.
